What is the art of Smudging? (the short version)

Smudging is a traditional Native American method of burning sacred herbs to produce a smoke cloud which is used in various cleansing or prayer ceremonies and purification or healing rituals. The smoke is also believed to dispurse impurities allowing the healing process to commence. As the smoke rises it lifts the negative influences, thoughts and emotions within a space to rise up to the spirit world where our creator resides. Most of the herbs used for smudging have antispetic qualities and the process of burning the herbs really does purify the air.

Cleansing - This is a ceremony where the use of smudge sticks made from Sage is used to remove bad spirits, feelings, or influences that is occupying a space.

Blessings - this is a two step ceremony where the use of smudge sticks made from cedar and sweetgrass are used. The cedar purifies the space and the sweetgrass brings in good spirits and influences.
